[ How this gets made ]

A vlog is held together by sound, not by pictures.

Turnaround 30–38h
  1. 01Audio is laid first and picture is built to it — J- and L-cuts so speech runs across a join instead of stopping on it.
  2. 02Room tone and ambience run under every sequence; a silent join between two locations is what makes a vlog read as loose clips.
  3. 03The day is given one thing the viewer is waiting to see, held back until it has been earned.
  4. 04Grade is matched shot to shot across mixed light, because phone, mirrorless and drone in one sequence is the normal case.

Vlog footage arrives with no structure at all, it is whatever happened, in the order it happened. The temptation is to trim it and call that an edit, which produces something with no reason to reach the end. Building on the audio bed gives it a continuity the camera never recorded, and continuity is the whole difference between a stack of clips and something that plays like a film.
